Resilience Through Ritual

We work with businesses, organizations, and individuals to create nondenominational rituals, fostering greater resilience.    Please reach out for a free consultation.

In our work with clients, we use the Resilience Through Ritual methodology, a human-centered design process developed by Center for Ritual Design founder Betty Ray to co-create meaningful bespoke rituals for organizations and individuals. The personalized nature of this framework allows us to customize each ritual for the specific needs and goals of the client while ensuring the client is completely engaged in the process.   The Resilience Through Ritual framework is a 6-step process that uses human-centered design to help organizations, communities, and individuals use the practice of ritual to work through difficult dynamics –  a practice that is shown to deepen resilience through belonging, meaning, and purpose.    Developed by the Center for RItual Design founder Betty Ray, this non-denominational framework is designed to be used by people of any faith or no faith at all. It can be used to create better meetings, foster greater alignment across teams or departments, and improve cultural health.    of all scopes and sizes, whether it’s a small but powerful activity in a weekly standup or to foster a shared sense of unity in the first all-staff meeting after a large corporate merger.     The six steps of the framework are

Stories: What are the current stories - conscious and unconscious - that are driving behavior and attitudes? How might these be causing problems, and how might they be improved?

Symbols: Ritual is most impactful when it speaks to the unconscious. In this step, we will  identify those symbols and metaphors that are most meaningful to you and your organization so that we can intentionally incorporate them to connect to this deeper place in the participants.

Design: Using the stories and symbols as our guide, we collaborate to ideate and refine ideas for rituals that fit in with existing practices and processes.

Production: We work with your team to ensure that all production details are taken care of so that all participants can focus on enacting the ritual without distraction.

Enactment: You and your team enact the ritual.

Reflection: We interview key stakeholders to determine the success of the ritual and write up a series of recommendations for future rituals.

Betty  has facilitated and/or presented on the topic of rituals and rites of passage at TED Courses, as well as the New Rules 4 Work conference, the Parent Venture Speaker Series, EduCon. She is co-founder of Pandora’s Way, a startup which is creating a rite of passage toolkit to help parents guide their kids to a healthy digital adolescence.
